New Delhi, Sept 4: The International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi, on Thursday hosted BioE3@1 to celebrate the first anniversary of India’s BioE3 Policy — a flagship initiative integrating Biotechnology with Environment, Economy, and Employment.
The event themed “Institute-Industry Interaction for Climate Resilient Agriculture and Clean Energy” was attended by representatives of leading research institutes and industry representatives to strengthen partnerships in India’s emerging bioeconomy sector.
An official spokesperson told Kashmir Convener that the conference was held in collaboration with the National Agri Food Biotechnology Institute (NABI), Mohali; National Institute of Plant Genome Research (NIPGR), New Delhi; National Institute of Animal Biotechnology (NIAB), Hyderabad; Institute of Pesticide Formulation Technology (IPFT), Gurgaon; and the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Faridabad.
“Industry participation was equally strong, with senior representatives from Balram Chinni Mills, Prasad Seeds Pvt. Ltd., Nuziveedu Seeds, Bioseeds, Mankind Agro, and Insecticides India Ltd. engaging in discussions on technology adoption and commercialization.” Spokesperson said in the statement.
The day-long programme was divided into two sessions. In the first session, directors of the collaborating institutes highlighted cutting-edge research in climate-resilient agriculture, sustainable energy, animal health, and pesticide formulation. Their presentations showcased institutional strengths and innovative capabilities aimed at addressing national and global sustainability challenges.
The second session featured a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Ramesh V. Sonti, Director, ICGEB New Delhi. Panelists included Shri Praveen Gupta (Balram Chinni Mills), Arvind Kumar (Global Vice President, Prasad Seeds), Dr. Seetharam Annadana (CTO, Nuziveedu Seeds), Dr. Ajay Kumar (Vice President & Deputy Head of Research, Bioseeds), Dr. Anupam Acharya (AGM, Mankind Agro), and Shekhar Bisht (R&D Head, Insecticides India Ltd.). The discussion focused on bridging the gap between academia and industry, with speakers underscoring the importance of collaborative frameworks under the BioE3 policy to accelerate lab-to-market transitions.
Adding to the interactive format, research institutes set up stalls showcasing their latest technological innovations. Attendees explored advances in agri-biotech, clean energy solutions, animal biotechnology, and pesticide formulation — all aimed at supporting India’s bioeconomy and sustainability goals.
The BioE3 Policy was approved by the Union Cabinet in 2024 that aims to elevate India’s bioeconomy to the next level. Spokesperson said the policy plays a pivotal role in the country’s commitment to achieving Net Zero carbon emissions by 2070, while fostering innovation, sustainability, and inclusive growth.
“By anchoring biotechnology in environmental conservation, economic development, and employment generation, the policy represents a transformative approach to national development,” he added.
