Four Kashmiri Youth Win National Youth Excellence Award 2024-25

Jammu, August 2024: In a proud moment for Jammu and Kashmir, four young achievers from the Valley have been conferred with the prestigious National Youth Excellence Award 2024-25 during the National Youth Exchange Programme held at the University of Jammu.

The event was organised by Live For Others – Being Helpful Foundation (NGO) in collaboration with the University, and brought together some of the brightest young minds from across the country.

The awardees from Kashmir include Tahira Tabasum from Bandipora, Tariq Ahmad Shera from Srinagar, Mehaq from Sopore, and Ruqia Bano from Bandipora, who was unable to attend the ceremony in person. Each of them was recognised for outstanding contributions in diverse fields—ranging from social service and cultural promotion to youth empowerment and community development.

Tahira Tabasum has been actively involved in youth leadership and awareness programmes in Bandipora, inspiring rural students to pursue education and career opportunities.

Tariq Ahmad Shera, a well-known cultural activist from Srinagar, has earned acclaim for his efforts in preserving Kashmiri art, language, and traditions through theatre and cultural events.

Sopore’s Mehaq was recognised for her contributions in education and grassroots awareness, while Ruqia Bano’s initiatives in women’s empowerment and social service have made her a role model in Bandipora.

The organisers described the honour as a celebration of “young leaders who embody resilience, creativity, and service.” They said the recognition of Kashmiri youth on a national stage demonstrates the Valley’s growing role in shaping the future of India. “This award is not just about individual achievement; it is a message of hope, responsibility, and nation-building,” said an official from the Foundation.

The award ceremony, attended by students, academicians, and social activists from different states, highlighted the importance of youth-driven initiatives in addressing pressing social issues.

The speakers underlined that India’s demographic dividend lies in its youth, and examples like those from Kashmir show how young people, even from conflict-affected regions, can rise as torchbearers of positive change.

Local communities in Kashmir have welcomed the recognition with pride. Teachers, peers, and activists hailed the four achievers as symbols of determination who continue to work for society despite challenges.

“Their success is an inspiration for thousands of Kashmiri youth. It shows that with dedication and vision, our young generation can stand tall at any platform,” said a Srinagar-based educationist.

The recognition has thus emerged as not only a personal milestone for the awardees but also a collective achievement for the Valley. For many, it signals the beginning of a new chapter where Kashmiri youth are increasingly visible on national and international platforms, celebrated for their talent, leadership, and social commitment.
