Srinagar, August 01: Former Minister and senior political leader Usman Majid on Friday called on Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in Srinagar and discussed a range of developmental issues concerning Bandipora district.

In a detailed interaction held at Raj Bhawan, Majid strongly advocated for granting National Highway status to the Bandipora–Srinagar road, terming it a long-pending demand crucial to the region’s economic and connectivity needs.

Taking to social media after the meeting, Majid wrote, “I strongly advocated for granting National Highway status to the Bandipora–Srinagar road… along with the construction of the Lolab-Bandipora Road Tunnel, establishment of a Women’s Degree College in Bandipora, and the urgent need for conservation of Wullar Lake.”

He further said that the discussion also covered key sectors such as infrastructure, healthcare, and youth employment, with an emphasis on bridging gaps in public services and development.

Describing the meeting as “positive and constructive,” Majid expressed optimism that the administration would take tangible steps towards addressing the issues raised.

The Bandipora–Srinagar road has long been seen as a critical transport corridor for North Kashmir. Its upgradation to National Highway standards, along with improved educational and ecological infrastructure, is expected to boost connectivity, promote tourism, and empower local youth, according to public stakeholders in the region.
