Veteran Warrior Hav Baldev Singh Passes Away at 93

Naushera, January 7: Havildar Baldev Singh (Retd), a revered war hero and veteran of the Indian Army, passed away on January 6, 2025, at the age of 93 in his hometown of Naushera. Known for his extraordinary service and contributions to the nation, Hav Baldev Singh’s passing marks the end of a legacy of patriotism and valor.

Born on September 27, 1931, in the village of Naunihal, Naushera, Baldev Singh joined the Bal Sena Force at the age of 16 under the leadership of Brigadier Usman during the Battle of Naushera and Jhangar in 1947-48. The Bal Sena, composed of local boys aged 12 to 16, served as despatch runners for the Indian Army during critical moments. Recognizing their bravery, Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru honored the Bal Sainiks with gramophones, watches, and opportunities to join the Indian Army.

Hav Baldev Singh formally enlisted in the Indian Army on November 14, 1950, and served with distinction for nearly three decades. He actively participated in several wars, including the Indo-Pak conflicts of 1961, 1962, and 1965. After retiring in October 1969, he was recalled during the Indo-Pak War of 1971 and served in the 11 JAT Battalion of the 25 Infantry Division for eight months.

Throughout his career, Hav Baldev Singh was recognized for his exemplary service, receiving honors from leaders such as Prime Minister Nehru, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Vice President Hamid Ansari. His legacy continues to inspire generations as a testament to courage and dedication to the nation.

The last rites of Hav Baldev Singh will be performed today at 12:00 PM in his native village of Naunihal, Naushera, with full military honors and service protocols.

The Ministry of Defence, along with the entire nation, extends heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones in this moment of loss.
