Nagrota, April 12: A comprehensive lecture and live demonstration on disaster awareness and mitigation was conducted by A Company of the 13 Battalion, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for cadets of the 4 J&K Battalion NCC Jammu at the NCC Training Academy (NTA), Nagrota, where the cadets are currently attending their Annual Training Camp.

The session aimed to equip young cadets with essential knowledge and skills needed to effectively respond to both natural and man-made disasters. Beginning with an overview of various disasters—including earthquakes, floods, landslides, and fire accidents—the session stressed the importance of early warning systems, community preparedness, and timely response to minimize damage and loss of life.

A major focus was placed on first response techniques and basic first aid, where cadets were trained in the ABCs of first aid—Airway, Breathing, and Circulation. They also learned how to manage injuries like bleeding, fractures, burns, and unconsciousness, supported by hands-on demonstrations led by the NDRF personnel.

The event also highlighted the Yuva Aapda Mitra initiative, which encourages youth participation in disaster preparedness and response. Addressing the cadets, Maj Uttam, Company Commander of A Coy ex 13 Bn NDRF, underlined the crucial role NCC cadets can play as trained first responders in their communities. He encouraged them to volunteer and assist in evacuation, first aid, and support to civil authorities during emergencies.

The session concluded with an interactive Q&A round, followed by a vote of thanks. Camp Commandant Col Kuldeep Kachru lauded the efforts of the NDRF team and urged cadets to take the lead in creating a resilient and disaster-aware society.

This collaborative initiative is yet another step toward building a trained and empowered youth force, capable of responding to emergencies with courage, confidence, and competence.
