Srinagar, April 14: Adbi Markaz Kamraz (AMK), Jammu and Kashmir, held an important meeting at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, on Sunday to discuss current challenges facing the Kashmiri language. The session focused on the importance of script in preserving the language.

The meeting was attended by well-known writers, intellectuals, musicians, journalists, and civil society members from across the Kashmir Valley. It was presided over by noted Urdu and Kashmiri writer Professor Muhammad Zaman Azarda. Professor Naseem Shafai and AMK President Muhammad Amin But were also present.

Speakers expressed concern over efforts to change the script of the Kashmiri language. They stressed that Nastaliq is the only authentic and accepted script and warned that any change would harm the language’s historical and cultural roots. They urged the government to protect the script and promote the language officially.

Participants also demanded that the Kashmiri language be given the status of a classical language. The AMK president was given authority to form a committee to take up these issues with the government.

Professor Azarda appreciated AMK’s efforts and called for more such discussions in the future.

Several prominent personalities attended the event, including Professor Farooq Fayyaz, Ayyash Arif, Shabbir Mujahid, Waheed Jilani, Altaf Hussain, Shakeel-ur-Rehman, and others. At the end of the session, newly elected First Vice President of AMK, Shakir Shafi, thanked all attendees.
