Srinagar, Sept 19: The 10th edition of the Global Leaders’ Conference (GLC Srinagar 2026) brought together educationists, academicians, industry experts, public-service professionals, entrepreneurs, technology specialists and community leaders to deliberate on sustainable development and emerging challenges facing education, business, health and the environment.
Held under the theme “Sustainable Education • Sustainable Business • Sustainable Health,” the conference provided a platform for discussions on future-ready education, responsible technology, leadership, environmental protection, sustainable business and community development.
The conference began with an interactive exercise in which participants identified a word they believed could help shape the future of the planet and shared it with fellow delegates under the message, “My Word. My Action. My Future.”
The formal proceedings commenced with an inaugural address by Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo, Vice-Chancellor, Islamic University of Science and Technology, who outlined the broader intellectual context of sustainable development.
The conference also featured discussions on sustainable tourism and the need to build a sustainable future for Kashmir, with Sayed Humayun Qaisar, IB(P)S, among those contributing to the deliberations.
A session on Sustainable Education, chaired by Dr Farooq Ahmad Wasil, Chief Academic Officer, Vasal Education Group and Director, Thinksite Services, examined future-ready education, skills, equity, innovation, global citizenship and the responsible use of artificial intelligence and other technologies.
The session featured Dr Syed Shabeena Yaseen, District Academic Officer, Department of Education, Srinagar; Priti Tyagi, Principal, Arya Kanya Public School; and Asma Zaidi, Founder, Let’s Read and Director, School Transformation Program.
Participants were encouraged to identify an idea, a potential partnership and a measurable action that could be implemented within 30 days.
Another session on Sustainable Business, Leadership and Health, chaired by Lt Gen Anil Malik, AVSM (Retd.), examined responsible business practices, environmental, social and governance (ESG) principles, women’s economic participation and community health.
Dr Sayed Anwar Bari delivered a keynote on “Green Entrepreneurship: Building the Businesses of Tomorrow”, while Dr Haleema Sadia, Managing Director, Edufam International Academy, spoke on “Women, Sustainability & Economic Power — The Missing Link.”
The conference’s virtual and international sessions expanded the discussion to artificial intelligence, responsible leadership, technology, green business, circular economy and planetary health.
The event also addressed sustainability challenges specific to Kashmir, including youth climate leadership, sustainable tourism, the Himalayan water crisis, circular economy, conservation of natural assets and community-led development.
The discussions brought together contributors including Dr Omar Almarzooqi, Tariq Ahmed Rather, Waheed Jeelani, Sayed Humayun Qaisar, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Saleem Lone, Kaleem Ul Hafeez and Dr Ahsanul Haq Chishti.
The conference concluded with an honour and award ceremony recognising individuals for contributions in areas including education, sustainability, public service, artificial intelligence, environmental conservation, community development, health and communication.
Among those recognised were Lt Gen Anil Malik, Dr Farooq Ahmad Wasil, Dr Syed Shabeena Yaseen, Prof Dr S Sivanesan, Prof Khwaja M Shahid, Dr Mahesh Abhyankar, Dr Musrrat Parveen, Dr Nasyra Ab Jamil, Hafsath Aleem, Javid Ahmad Bhat, Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, Dr Hina Iqbal Mudgal and Dr Abhijit Sarkar, among others.
The organisers acknowledged the support of Raffles Education Institute, Shehlat Foundation, Munsif TV, Assad Advertisers and Kashmir Mahal Resorts, besides delegates, volunteers and members of the organising team.
The conference concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ghulam Abbas, Vice Chairman, Shehlat Foundation.
