Bandipora, Aug 10: The seven-day annual Urs of revered Sufi saint Hazrat Syed Ghulam Rasool Shah (RA), popularly known as Nanga Baji Sahib (RA), concluded at Malangam in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Monday, with thousands of devotees from across Jammu and Kashmir participating in prayers, religious observances and spiritual gatherings.
The concluding day was marked by a large congregation of devotees at the revered shrine, where special prayers and recitation of the Holy Quran took place. Prayers were offered for peace, prosperity, brotherhood and tranquillity in Jammu and Kashmir and across the country.
As part of the concluding ceremony, the traditional religious flag was hoisted at the shrine, while a special Chadder was laid on the tomb of the revered Sufi saint amid prayers and devotional fervour.
The annual Urs, which has been celebrated continuously for the past 69 years, holds deep religious and spiritual significance for devotees and has emerged as one of the prominent Sufi gatherings in the Bandipora region.
The Urs was traditionally organised by Syed Zamin Shah, father of Syed Wilayat Hussain Shah, who carried forward the long-standing spiritual tradition associated with Hazrat Nanga Baji Sahib (RA). Following his legacy, Syed Wilayat Hussain Shah has been organising the annual Urs for the past 17 years, further strengthening the tradition and keeping the spiritual legacy alive for successive generations.
