PAMPORE, Apr 16: Strong gusty winds lashed Pampore in south Kashmir on Thursday evening, damaging vehicles, uprooting trees and disrupting power supply across several areas, officials and eyewitnesses said.

Residents said the sudden windstorm struck with high intensity, blowing off tin sheds and temporary structures and sending debris onto roads and parking spaces. Several parked cars and motorcycles were damaged after being hit by flying objects and falling tree branches, while roads in some localities were partially blocked.

No injuries were reported, but the incident caused damage to private property, with vehicle owners reporting losses.

Officials said the strong winds also led to power outages in multiple areas after electricity lines were damaged. Restoration teams from the Power Development Department were deployed to affected locations, and efforts to restore supply were underway.

Railway operations were also affected temporarily due to the disruption in power supply, officials said.

In addition, rooftops of several residential houses were damaged in areas including Androosa and other parts of Pampore tehsil.

The weather disturbance was not limited to Pampore, with similar conditions reported across parts of the Kashmir Valley. The Meteorological Department had issued an orange alert, forecasting rain, thundershowers and gusty winds with speeds of up to 40–50 km/h, along with the possibility of hailstorms at isolated places.

Authorities advised residents to take precautions during the adverse weather, including avoiding movement near electric poles, old trees and unstable structures.

As a precautionary measure, boating and shikara services on water bodies were also suspended until conditions improve.
