Social welfare Budgam unfurl good initiative for transgender community

Budgam, July 9: Along with other parts of the country, world transgender day was also observed in District Budgam. In this connection, department of social welfare organized a mini interaction session in which transgender across district Budgam were invited to participate. Today’s interaction session emerges as unique initiative as this is for the first time this community was invited to express their issues they are facing with regard to social injustice, discrimination, economic al difficulties they are facing in day to day survival, disparity in education scenario and many other issues. 

While representing transgender community belonging to district Budgam, Mr. Aijaz Ahmad highlighted the issue problems this community has to negotiate in day to day survival. He said this community is not treated like human beings, we always has to go through unprecedented discrimination through all walks of life, be it socio economic upliftment, category based share in government gobs or in private sector, never respected or allowed to live with honor even our kiths and kins Have negative approach towards us. We are always deprived of our rights despite approaching to different corners and authorities, respective government institutions and other public sector ventures. Our voice and our struggle in seeking our due right always resulting in flops.


   While quoting DSWO, Dr. Farhana Asgar on the issue, she said during interacting with the representatives of this community, it was observed that they are deeply alienated from other gender of the society. They revealed that they didn’t represent any category, neither they have been included in any welfare schemes, providing monetary relief to other economically and socially week under privileged categories. It was also observed that these transgender are mostly illiterate had not any job or work to do so as to enable them to earn livelihood as they even  are not allowed to work with honor or survive with honor.


Taking the issue seriously DSW officer Budgam took a unique initiative in highlighting the miseries, difficulties, social injustice this community is going through. In this regard worthy Director Social welfare Kashmir was fully apprised about in what circumstances these transgenders are managing their day to day survival. She with her relentless efforts was able to get this category included in under weaker section underprivileged class thus pave way to receive monthly monetary relief of Rs. 1000 per month for them. She said, District Budgam was the first district in the UT in implementing this scheme instantly, we made lot of efforts in identify and reaching to them individually so that no one of this community shall be left without getting registered under this scheme.

 

The monthly relief apart from enabling them to survive could also help them in extracting other options of survival, they even can get education, skill trainings in different crafts and professions and can live with dignity.
