SK Bala Residents protest against ban on Stone Quarrying

SK Bala, Fev 10: Scores of Residents of Saderkoot Bala in North Kashmir's Bandipora District Monday protested against ban on stone qurraying in the area.
Protesters assembled at Srinagar-Bandipora road and sat on Dharna thus halting the traffic movement for several hours. They demanded lifting of ban on quarrying stating that it is the sole means of livelihood for the people of the area.
They said that after the imposition of ban thousands of locals have been rendered jobless and they don't have any other means of livelihood upon which they can feed their families.
After peaceful sit in protest a contingent of security forces persuaded the demonstrators/protesters to disperse and assured them to being grievances into the notice of the district administration, said an eyewitness.
An official from police department confirmed the incident and said that dozens of people had gathered on the sides of Bandipora-Srinagar highway who were aggrieved on the recent ban on stone Quarrying who were later on persuaded to contact district administration which they accepted and dispersed peacefully.
