Shopian Police Crackdown on Illegal Narcotic Cultivation; Poppy Destroyed, Case Registered

Shopian, May 04: Sustaining its intensified drive against the drug menace, Shopian Police continued its crackdown on illegal narcotics cultivation by acting on specific information regarding poppy cultivation in the Berthipora area of the district.

Acting promptly on the information, a police team from Police Post Berthipora along with Revenue and Agriculture Department reached the spot and detected illegal poppy cultivation on land belonging to Mohd Ashraf Kumar son of Ab Gani Kumar resident of Berthipora. The illicit crop was immediately destroyed on the spot. In this regard, Case FIR No. 46/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Keller and further investigation has been taken up.

Shopian Police reiterated that the ongoing drive against drug abuse and illegal cultivation will continue with full vigour. The public has been urged to extend cooperation by sharing any information related to drug abuse or unlawful cultivation.
