Shopian Police Continues Crackdown on Illegal Narcotic Cultivation; Poppy Plants Destroyed; 03 FIRs Registered

SHOPIAN, April 27: Continuing its sustained and intensified campaign against the drug menace, Shopian Police carried out a series of successful operations targeting illegal poppy cultivation in different parts of the district. Acting on specific information received through the Beat Incharge, police teams from Police Station Shopian, accompanied by an Executive Magistrate, conducted raids in the areas of Zawoora, Gugloora Pinjoora and Mirpora Pinjoora.

During the operation at Zawoora, illegal poppy cultivation was detected on land belonging to Abdul Gaffar Mir son of Abdul Ahad Mir. The illicit crop was promptly destroyed on the spot. In this connection, Case FIR No. 65/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been initiated.

In a similar action at Gugloora Pinjoora illegal poppy cultivation was found on land belonging to Nizar Ahmad Shah son-in-law of Mohammad Paul. Accordingly, Case FIR No. 66/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation initiated.

Likewise, in Mirpora Pinjoora, illegal poppy cultivation was detected on land belonging to Khurshid Ahmad Malik son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Malik. In this regard, Case FIR No. 67/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation is underway.

Shopian Police reiterated its firm commitment to eradicating the menace of drug abuse and illegal narcotics cultivation from the district. The general public is urged to cooperate with the police and share any information related to drug trafficking or unlawful cultivation to help build a drug-free society.
