Shopian Police Arrest 02 Drug Peddlers; 2.41 Grams of Contraband Recovered, 02 FIRs Registered

SHOPIAN, June 12: Continuing its sustained efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, Shopian Police acted on reliable information and registered two FIRs under the NDPS Act, recovering contraband substances during separate operations in the district.

 

Acting on reliable information, a special naka was established at Narwoo Crossing. During naka checking, a police party apprehended a suspected drug peddler. Upon search, 2.41 grams of heroin-like substance was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Altaf Ahmed Boda son of Abdul Ghani Boda resident of Bemnipora Shopian. Accordingly, FIR No. 115/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and investigation has been taken up.

 

In another operation, acting on specific information, a police party from Police Station Shopian conducted a search in connection with the illegal cultivation and possession of poppy plants. During the search of a cowshed belonging to the accused namely Imtiyaz Ahmad Baba son of Abdul Aziz Baba resident of Ghundhandoo Shopian, poppy bulbs were found stored on the second storey. Consequently, 17.8 Kgs of poppy bulbs were recovered and seized. In this regard, FIR No. 116/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Shopian and further investigation is underway.

 

Shopian Police reiterates its firm commitment to maintaining a drug-free society and urges the general public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing information regarding drug peddling illegal cultivation of narcotic plants or substance abuse in their localities. Citizens can report such activities to the nearest police station and the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
