Pampore, May 4: Shehjar Trust Lethpora organised a drug de-addiction awareness programme in Pampore under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyaan, aimed at promoting a healthy and drug-free society among youth.

The programme was held under the patronage of Executive Member Showkat Ahmad Kuchey and President Shabir Ahmad Kuchey, and witnessed participation from scholars, social activists and community members.

Among the key speakers were Mohammad Amin Bhat, Khalid Hussain Wani and Sajad Ahmad, who highlighted the rising menace of substance abuse and stressed the need for collective societal responsibility.

Speakers urged youth to stay away from drugs and adopt constructive lifestyles through education, sports and community engagement, while emphasising the importance of sustained awareness initiatives.

Addressing the gathering, Showkat Ahmad Kuchey said the government has taken a firm stand to eradicate drug abuse and that the Trust has launched its own campaign to support efforts across Pulwama district and the wider Union Territory.

He also referred to the strong message by Manoj Sinha on eliminating drug menace, and expressed confidence that grassroots-level interventions, particularly in Pampore, would contribute significantly towards building a drug-free society.

The organisers reiterated their commitment to working alongside government agencies and civil society to combat drug abuse, with participants calling for continued joint efforts to safeguard future generations.
