Seven Vehicles Blacklisted, Two Seized in MVA Enforcement  Drive

Bandipora, May 16: Bandipora Administration on Saturday conducted a day-long intensive checking drive across various routes of District Bandipora to ensure strict enforcement of the Motor Vehicles Act and promote road safety awareness.

            An official spokesperson said the drive was launched on the directions of the Transport Commissioner, J&K UT, Vishesh Pal Mahajan and was carried out under the supervision of ARTO Bandipora, Mukhtar Ahmad Sofi.

He said during the drive 42 vehicles were e-challaned for various violations under the Motor Vehicles Act, with an expected realization of approximately Rs 89,200.

During the enforcement drive, seven vehicles were blacklisted, two vehicles were seized, while recommendations for suspension of nine driving licences were also made for serious violations.

            Besides enforcement measures, the department also organized awareness activities under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA) to spread awareness regarding the harmful effects of drug abuse.

            As part of the campaign, a pledge ceremony was organized wherein participants pledged to contribute towards building a drug-free society. An awareness programme was also conducted to sensitize drivers and the general public about the ill effects of substance abuse and the importance of responsible behaviour on roads.

            To further enhance public outreach, stickers carrying anti-drug messages were pasted on commercial vehicles at Dawer Sumo Stand as part of the IEC activities under NMBA.
