SAM College, SOTTO JK Hold Inter-College Poster Competition to Promote Organ Donation

Beerwah, July 10: SAM College of Nursing & Para-Medical Sciences, Beerwah, in collaboration with the State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO), J&K, on Friday organised an inter-college poster-making competition on the theme “Leave a Legacy – Donate Organ” to promote awareness about organ donation.

The event brought together students and faculty members from six nursing institutions across Jammu and Kashmir, including Arsh Institute of Health Sciences & Technology, Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Ibn-Sina College of Nursing & Health Sciences, Haneefa College of Nursing, Ramzan College of Nursing and the host institution.

Assistant Director, Hospitality & Protocol Department, Showkat Ahmad, attended the programme as chief guest, while Dr. Murtuza Bukhari, Director of SAM College of Nursing & Para-Medical Sciences, presided over the event.

Representatives from SOTTO J&K, including Anshu Sharma, Nisha Kumari and Dr. Irfan Lone, sensitised participants about the importance of organ donation and highlighted the need for greater public awareness to increase donor registrations.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Bukhari described organ donation as one of the greatest acts of humanity, saying donors leave behind the gift of life. He urged students to become ambassadors of awareness and encourage their communities to support organ and tissue donation.

The resource persons also explained the medical, ethical and legal aspects of organ donation, dispelled common misconceptions and encouraged informed discussions among aspiring healthcare professionals.

Students showcased creative posters highlighting the life-saving significance of organ donation. The judges appreciated the originality and impactful messages conveyed through the artworks. Winners and participants were felicitated by the chief guest and the college director.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by the Principal and Head of Department of SAM College, who acknowledged the support of SOTTO J&K, the guests, participating colleges, faculty members, judges, students and the organising committee.

The organisers said the event reaffirmed their commitment to raising awareness about organ donation and encouraging society to view it as a lasting legacy of hope and humanity.
