Srinagar, Aug 10: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday indicated that there is unlikely to be any expansion of his Council of Ministers in the immediate future, while stopping short of giving any timeline for a possible cabinet expansion.
Talking to reporters, Omar appeared to dodge a direct question on the issue, questioning why he was being repeatedly asked about cabinet expansion.
“You never ask such questions to others,” the Chief Minister said.
Responding to the question, he further remarked that even the Prime Minister had not carried out an expansion of his Council of Ministers, asking why such a question was being directed at him.
“Let expansion aside, even there is no expansion done by the Prime Minister, why do you ask such questions?” he said.
Omar, however, did not rule out a cabinet expansion altogether and indicated that it could take place at some point in the future.
“It will happen someday,” he said.
His remarks suggest that the issue of expanding or reshuffling the J&K Council of Ministers is not currently on the immediate agenda, although the Chief Minister has kept the possibility open. [KNT]
