Naninara Bridge to Be Completed by August This Year: Bandipora Admin

Bandipora, June 5: The District Administration on Friday stated that the construction of the new permanent bridge at Naninara is progressing steadily and is expected to be completed by August 2026.

An official spokesperson said the bridge project was taken up in January 2026 after the existing Bailey Bridge was declared unsafe for public use following a structural safety assessment conducted in December 2025.

He said the permanent bridge had originally been sanctioned in 2018 and is considered vital for maintaining connectivity in the area.

According to officials, several key milestones have already been achieved. Both bridge abutments have been completed and the abutment caps have been successfully cast in accordance with prescribed engineering standards.

Officials said that the recently completed casting work requires a mandatory curing and strength-gain period before the next phase of construction can begin.

They clarified that this technical requirement should not be viewed as a delay or stoppage of work.

Meanwhile, fabrication of the steel girders has been completed and the girders are ready for launching.

The critical girder-launching operation is expected to commence shortly.

Authorities stated that the project is being closely monitored to ensure timely completion without compromising safety or quality standards. They reiterated their commitment to completing the bridge within the stipulated timeframe while addressing the connectivity needs of the local population.

The department acknowledged the inconvenience caused during the construction period and assured the public that all efforts are being made to complete the bridge at the earliest.
