Bandipora, April 29: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) Bandipora on Tuesday conducted a special enforcement drive across the district to ensure compliance with traffic and road safety regulations, officials said.

The drive was carried out on the directions of the Transport Commissioner and under the supervision of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) Bandipora.

During the operation, a total of 85 vehicles were inspected at different locations across the district. Officials said 12 vehicles were challaned for violations under various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The enforcement drive focused particularly on school buses, with authorities carrying out detailed checks to ensure compliance with safety norms. These included verification of valid documents, fitness certificates, and adherence to prescribed safety standards.

Drivers of school buses were also sensitized regarding road safety rules, disciplined driving practices, and the need for caution while transporting school children. Officials emphasized strict adherence to safety protocols to prevent road accidents and ensure student safety.

The department stated that such enforcement and awareness drives are part of ongoing efforts to strengthen road discipline and improve compliance with transport regulations. Authorities reiterated that similar inspections will continue in the coming days across the district.

Officials further said the initiative aims to enhance public safety, with a special focus on safeguarding school-going children and reducing violations on roads.
