Srinagar, Sep 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly on Friday descended into chaos as BJP MLAs stormed the Well of the House over Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s resolution referring to earlier Assembly resolutions, including the contentious 2000 autonomy resolution, triggering a bitter confrontation with National Conference members.
According to Kashmir Convener Correspondent covering the assembly, BJP members raised slogans questioning the reference to autonomy, while NC members hit back with counter-slogans. Amid the uproar, NC members were heard raising “Kashmir hamara hai,” with BJP members responding with “Sara Kashmir hamara hai.”
The sloganeering led to a noisy face-off between the treasury and opposition benches, with members protesting in the Well. Congress MLA Nizamuddin Khan also entered the Well amid the commotion.
The protests erupted shortly after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s resolution referred to the autonomy resolution passed by the erstwhile Assembly in 2000.
The resolution, listed for consideration in the House, states that in addition to resolutions passed by the Assembly on June 26, 2000, and November 6, 2024, the House calls upon the Government of India for the immediate and urgent restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, and resolves that the resolution be forwarded to the Government of India.
The Assembly has witnessed repeated disruptions during the ongoing session, including protests by BJP members entering the Well on earlier occasions.
