Bandipora, Sept 19: Students of Government Boys Middle School Kaloosa have turned discarded materials into innovative and useful exhibits under the school’s “Trash to Treasure” project, promoting recycling, cleanliness and responsible waste management through hands-on learning.
The initiative has taken shape in less than 15 days, transforming a classroom into a creative learning space featuring a range of items prepared from materials that would otherwise have been discarded.
The project aims to encourage students to reuse waste creatively while giving them practical exposure to concepts of sustainability and environmental responsibility.
The initiative has been appreciated by the Chief Education Officer, Bandipora, and the concerned Zonal Education Officer for encouraging creativity and environmental awareness among students.
Head of Institution Mushtaq Ahmad Mir attributed the project largely to the efforts of teacher Rehana Mushtaq.
“Whatever has been created here is the result of the efforts of Rehana Mushtaq, a teacher of our school, who is working her best for this noble cause,” Mir said.
The exhibits demonstrate how discarded materials can be reused to create functional and decorative items, helping students understand the principles of recycling through practical activities.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Indu Kanwal Chib also appreciated the initiative and said the school had the vision and potential to set an example of Swachhata for other schools in the district.
“This school has the vision as well as potential to set an amazing example in Swachhata for other schools of Bandipora district to follow,” she said.
The school’s initiative has turned a classroom into a space for experimentation and learning, while reinforcing the message that waste can be reused creatively when students are given the opportunity and encouragement to innovate. – (KNS)
