Pampore, September 21: Dr. Doifode Sagar Dattatray (IAS), Mission Director, Jammu and Kashmir Comprehensive Investment Plan (JKCIP)/Holistic Agriculture Development Plan (HADP), on Sunday visited the India International Kashmir Saffron Trading Centre (IIKSTC), Dusoo Pampore, and nearby saffron fields to review the ongoing replanting activities being carried out under JKCIP.
During the visit, the Mission Director reviewed the functioning of IIKSTC Dusoo and inspected saffron planting activities. He interacted with saffron growers, field officers and Agriculture Department officials and sought feedback on the progress of the replanting programme, officials told Kashmir Convener.
Farmers in several saffron-producing areas of Pampore are currently engaged in replanting saffron corms under the programme.
Dr Doifode directed the concerned officers to maintain close field-level monitoring, adhere to JKCIP guidelines, provide timely technical guidance and handholding support to growers, and strengthen coordination between field staff and farmers.
He also appreciated the efforts of the Agriculture Department and field functionaries in implementing the programme.
Officials said a large number of saffron growers are participating in the replanting exercise and carrying out the work as per the recommended guidelines. Technical support is also being provided to farmers to ensure that the process is undertaken in a systematic manner.
Under the replanting programme, farmers are being provided government assistance of Rs 28,735 per kanal for saffron corm replanting. An additional Rs 9,000 per kanal is being provided as labour assistance to support growers with the cost of labour involved in cultivation and replanting.
The visit focused on field-level monitoring and technical support for the ongoing saffron replanting programme in Pampore.
