Srinagar, June 29: Jammu and Kashmir is set to host the first-ever National Coaching Camp for the Indian Soft Tennis teams ahead of the 20th Asian Games, Japan 2026, marking a major milestone in the Union Territory’s sporting history.

The camp, organised by the J&K Amateur Soft Tennis Association under the aegis of the Amateur Soft Tennis Federation of India (ASTFI) in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council, will be held at Gindun Sports Stadium, Rajbagh, Srinagar, from July 10 to August 13.

Organisers said the camp reflects the growing stature of Soft Tennis in Jammu and Kashmir and will provide the country’s top players with intensive training ahead of the Asian Games.

Soft Tennis is recognised by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the School Games Federation of India and the Association of Indian Universities. It is also affiliated with the Asian Soft Tennis Federation and the International Soft Tennis Federation and features in both the National Games and the Asian Games.

The J&K Amateur Soft Tennis Association has won 5 gold, 13 silver and 10 bronze medals at national and international competitions. It has also established a network of 18 affiliated district units across Jammu and Kashmir and has hosted five national championships in different categories.

The Association said plans are underway to host more national and international Soft Tennis events in the Union Territory during the current year.

Jammu and Kashmir has produced several accomplished Soft Tennis players, including Madavendra Singh Sambayal, Shreemai Bhat, Sidhani Singh, Soham Bhatt, Antistika, Mujtaba Hassan and Mohammad Qais, who have represented India with distinction.

Organisers described the coaching camp as a landmark opportunity for local players to train alongside the country’s leading athletes and coaches, which is expected to further strengthen the growth of Soft Tennis in Jammu and Kashmir.
