J&K Floods Damage Over 75,000 Hectares of Crops, Kill Nearly 4,600 Livestock: Reveals Official Data

Srinagar, Oct 28: The Disaster Management, Relief, Rehabilitation & Reconstruction Department has revealed that recent flash floods have damaged over 75,000 hectares of crops and killed nearly 4,600 livestock across the Union Territory.
The information was revealed in a written reply to MLA Inderwal, Pavare Lal Sharma, based on reports from District and Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs).
According to the official data of which a copy lies with Kashmir Convener, the estimated losses are severe, with the Jammu Division suffering the most significant impact. The division reported crop damage across 69,707.685 hectares and the loss of 4,534 livestock. In contrast, the Kashmir Division saw crop damage on 6,073.2605 hectares and the loss of 51 animals.
The Union Territory-wide totals confirm extensive damage, with 75,780.9455 hectares of crops destroyed and 4,585 livestock killed.
The department confirmed that relief assistance is being provided to affected families in accordance with the norms of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF). However, in response to queries about further financial aid for farmers, the department stated that there is currently no proposal under consideration for a full or partial waiver of Kisan Credit Card (KCC) loans.
Regarding crop insurance, officials reported that Crop Cutting Experiments (CCEs) are currently underway to assess the damage. Upon completion of these assessments, eligible compensation will be disbursed directly to farmers’ bank accounts through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mechanism, as per the provisions of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
