Jammu, May 4: Continuing its wide-ranging outreach across Jammu and Kashmir, the Indian Army on Sunday organised a series of programmes focusing on health, youth engagement and anti-drug awareness, reinforcing its commitment to community well-being and social responsibility.

In Doda, a Yoga Camp was organised at Gei to promote physical and mental wellness among the youth. Around 60 participants from different walks of life took part in the session, which included various yoga asanas and pranayama exercises conducted by trained Army instructors.

The camp catered to both beginners and experienced practitioners, focusing on improving flexibility, strength, mental clarity and relaxation. During an interactive session, participants were educated on the holistic benefits of yoga, with instructors highlighting its role in fostering harmony between mind and body. Locals appreciated the initiative, noting that such programmes encourage a healthier lifestyle and inner well-being.

Meanwhile, in Poonch district, the Indian Army intensified its anti-drug campaign under the Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan through multiple awareness initiatives.

At Modern Public Academy, Dara Dullian, an awareness lecture was conducted to sensitise students about the harmful effects of drug abuse. Army personnel highlighted the physical, psychological and social consequences of substance abuse, while also educating students on resisting peer pressure and making informed life choices. The session witnessed active participation, with students engaging in discussions and seeking guidance.

In another initiative, a ‘Unity March’ was organised at Surankote to generate mass awareness against drug abuse. The march saw participation from students, civil society members, teachers and local representatives, who carried placards and raised slogans advocating a drug-free society. The procession aimed to highlight the dangers of narcotics and encourage collective community action.

Speakers at the event emphasised that drug abuse remains a serious societal challenge and called for joint efforts in prevention, awareness and rehabilitation. The programme concluded with participants taking a pledge to support the vision of a drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.

Through these initiatives, the Indian Army continues to play a proactive role in promoting health, empowering youth and fostering a safer, addiction-free society across the region.
