Bandipora, April 16: In a commendable humanitarian initiative, the Indian Army on Thursday carried out a “Medical on Foot” outreach program in a refugee village near the Line of Control (LoC) in the Gurez Valley of Bandipora district.

As part of the initiative, a dedicated team of Army doctors and medical staff visited households across the remote border area, ensuring that essential healthcare services reached residents living in difficult and sensitive conditions. The team conducted door-to-door medical check-ups, examined patients, and provided necessary consultations and advice.

Residents, particularly the elderly and those unable to travel long distances due to terrain or health issues, benefited significantly from the outreach. Essential medicines were distributed on the spot, addressing immediate health concerns and ensuring timely treatment for those in need.

While speaking to the media, a local resident, Mohd Sultan, appreciated the efforts of the Army and said that such initiatives bring much-needed relief to people living in far-flung border areas. He stated that access to healthcare remains a challenge in these regions, and the Army’s initiative has helped bridge that gap by reaching patients at their doorsteps.

He further added that the presence of doctors in the village has instilled a sense of care and reassurance among the residents, especially during times when medical assistance is otherwise difficult to access.

Another local resident, Ghulam Mohideen, also expressed his gratitude and said that the Army’s medical outreach has greatly benefited the local population. He mentioned that many villagers, including the elderly and children, received proper medical attention without having to travel long distances.

He also said that such humanitarian efforts strengthen trust and bring a sense of security among the people, highlighting the Army’s role not only as protectors but also as caregivers in these remote regions.

The initiative was widely appreciated by the local population, who expressed gratitude for the Army’s continued support and care.

Such outreach programs play a vital role in strengthening the bond between the armed forces and border communities, while also ensuring access to basic healthcare in far-flung areas.

The Indian Army has consistently undertaken such welfare measures in border regions, reaffirming its commitment not only to national security but also to the well-being of civilians living in challenging conditions.
