The awardees were selected following the decision of the jury, which was communicated to the organisation’s president Shakir Shafi Hajini. The awards will be presented during the annual conference of Halqa-e-Adab Sonawari scheduled to be held in October.

Dr Rafique Masoodi, former Additional Director General of Doordarshan and former secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, will receive the Khilat-i-Prof. Mohi-ud-Din Hajini Award for his contribution to broadcasting, literature, translation and the promotion of Kashmiri culture.

Masoodi, a poet, writer, translator and former public broadcaster, has worked in broadcasting and cultural institutions for several decades. He has been associated with platforms that provided opportunities to artists, writers and other cultural practitioners.

The organisation said the award recognises his contribution to literature, broadcasting and efforts associated with the preservation and promotion of Kashmiri cultural traditions.

The announcement was welcomed by the Wahab Cultural Society, Hajin, and Majlis-un-Nisa J&K, which congratulated both awardees.

The annual conference is expected to bring together writers, poets, scholars, cultural activists and others associated with Kashmiri literature.

Halqa-e-Adab Sonawari said the awards are intended to recognise contributions to literature, poetry and cultural activities and encourage continued engagement with the region’s literary heritage.
