Srinagar, October 9: Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Front (JKPDF) president and former Cabinet Minister Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen has called for the resignation of the Election Commissioner on moral grounds, citing what he described as serious allegations regarding voter lists.

Addressing a press conference at the party office in Khansahib, Yaseen said the Election Commission of India must remain independent, impartial and above suspicion.

Referring to allegations of over 13 crore fake votes in voter lists, Yaseen termed the claim serious and said it could have far-reaching consequences. He stressed that the Election Commission should remain apolitical and free from political influence.

Yaseen said that if allegations and evidence regarding voter lists had created doubts about the Election Commission, the Election Commissioner should consider resigning on moral grounds to protect the credibility of the institution.

He also appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and facilitate a transparent process to address the concerns and clear doubts surrounding the issue.

Yaseen said prolonged protests and demonstrations could cause difficulties for schools, colleges, hospitals, shopkeepers and the general public. He urged the authorities to resolve the issue before the situation leads to further protests.

He called on the Central Government to ensure free, fair and transparent elections, saying public confidence in democratic institutions must be maintained.
