Dy CM pays tributes to farmers’ Leader Mahendra Singh Tikait in New Delhi

New Delhi, May 14: Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Choudhary, today attended the tribute meeting and memorial programme organised on the death anniversary of renowned farmers’ leader and founder of the Bharatiya Kisan Union, Chaudhary Mahendra Singh Tikait, at the Constitution Club of India, New Delhi.
The programme was organised by All India Jat Mahasabha and members of the farming community to pay homage to the iconic leader popularly remembered as the “Messiah of Farmers.”
Several prominent political leaders, farmer representatives and public figures attended the programme, including Rakesh Tikait, Deepender Singh Hooda, Sanjay Singh, Sudhakar Singh, and senior office bearers of farmer organisations and social groups from across the country.
Addressing the gathering, the Deputy Chief Minister expressed gratitude to the organisers for inviting him to the memorial event and said that it was a matter of pride and honour for him to pay tributes to Chaudhary Mahendra Singh Tikait Ji. He also conveyed respects on behalf of the Chief Minister of Jammu & Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, and JKNC President Farooq Abdullah.
Recalling the legacy of Chaudhary Mahendra Singh Tikait Ji, Surinder Choudhary described him as a fearless leader who dedicated his life to safeguarding the rights and dignity of farmers and labourers. He said that the veteran leader inspired generations to stand united and struggle democratically for justice and equality.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that India’s true strength lies in its villages and farming communities, adding that farmers remain the backbone of the nation. He emphasised that the contribution of farmers towards nation-building and food security can never be ignored and called for collective efforts to safeguard their interests.
Sharing his personal background, Surinder Choudhary said that he was born into a farmer’s family and fully understands the hardships and struggles faced by cultivators. He said that the son of a farmer and a soldier reaching the position of Deputy Chief Minister reflects the strength of democracy and the aspirations of ordinary people.
Highlighting the importance of unity among farmers and social organisations, he urged people to rise above political divisions and work collectively for the welfare of rural communities. He said that the movements led by Chaudhary Mahendra Singh Tikait Ji became successful because they remained committed to public issues and people’s rights.
The Deputy Chief Minister concluded by reiterating his commitment towards protecting the interests of farmers and strengthening democratic values in the country.
