Bandipora, July 30: The Drug Control Department on Thursday sealed the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra operating at District Hospital (DH) Bandipora after it was allegedly found functioning with an expired drug licence.
According to official sources, the licence of the medical outlet had expired and was not renewed within the six-month grace period prescribed under the applicable rules. Despite the expiry, the outlet was reportedly continuing its operations.
Acting on the matter, the Drug Inspector conducted an inspection and sealed the medical store for allegedly operating without a valid drug licence. The action was taken under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and the rules governing the licensing of medical establishments.
Sources said that once the prescribed renewal period lapses, the licence cannot be renewed. The operator will now be required to apply for a fresh drug licence under the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules before the outlet can resume functioning.
The action has sparked concern among local residents, who questioned how a government-backed medicine outlet located within the District Hospital premises continued to operate despite the expiry of its licence. They called for a thorough review of the matter and urged the authorities to strengthen monitoring mechanisms to ensure strict compliance with licensing requirements at healthcare institutions.
No official statement had been issued by the concerned authorities till the filing of this report. Further proceedings are expected to be carried out in accordance with the law.
