DLSA Conducts Child Protection Awareness Session at IDPS Bandipora

Bandipora, April 29: An awareness programme on child protection laws and legal rights was conducted at International Delhi Public School (IDPS), Bandipora, with participation from students, faculty, and legal resource persons, officials said.

The programme was organised to sensitise students about legal safeguards, safety measures, and their rights under various child protection laws. Principal Muneer Ahmad Mir inaugurated the session and highlighted the importance of such initiatives in ensuring the safety and well-being of students.

The session was led by resource persons from the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), including Advocates Iqbal Rubbani and Tahira Bano, who delivered interactive lectures on key legal provisions and child safety mechanisms.

During the programme, detailed information was shared on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, focusing on its provisions related to prevention of sexual abuse and protection of minors. Students were also briefed on the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, particularly the role of Child Welfare Committees in providing care and protection to children in need.

The speakers also addressed issues related to cyber safety under the Information Technology Act, 2000, including cyberbullying, online exploitation, and safe internet practices. Relevant judicial pronouncements were explained to help students understand the legal consequences of offences against children.

Awareness was also raised about child marriage through provisions of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006, with emphasis on the right to education and a safe childhood.

Students were encouraged to adopt practical safety measures, including the “No-Go-Tell” approach in unsafe situations, and to report incidents without hesitation. Information about the Child Helpline number 1098 was also shared.

Officials said the programme witnessed active participation from students, who engaged in discussions and interactions during the session. The school administration expressed appreciation to the resource persons and reiterated its commitment to ensuring a safe and secure environment for students.
