SHOPIAN, Aug 13: Director General, Rural Sanitation, J&K, Anoo Malhotra (JKAS), on Thursday chaired a comprehensive review meeting in Shopian to assess the progress of the Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) and other rural sanitation and solid waste management initiatives in the district.
The DG was accompanied by Deputy Director, Rural Sanitation Kashmir, Shabir Ahmad Hakak, and Field Officer, Shajat Farooq.
ACP Shopian Muzaffar Ahmad Sheikh and Block Development Officers from all blocks of the district attended the meeting and briefed the DG on ongoing sanitation interventions, solid and liquid waste management activities and implementation of various SBM(G) components.
The meeting reviewed the status of sanitation infrastructure, waste management systems, household-level interventions and other key programme deliverables.
Malhotra stressed the need for time-bound completion of pending works, effective utilisation of created assets and strengthening of sustainable waste management systems across rural areas.
The BDOs were directed to ensure regular field-level monitoring, proper upkeep and functionality of sanitation assets, besides intensifying community participation and behaviour-change initiatives.
The ACP and concerned officers were also asked to strengthen inter-departmental coordination, address implementation gaps and expedite pending interventions to achieve programme targets within stipulated timelines.
The DG emphasised that district-level reviews are aimed at ensuring visible and sustainable outcomes in rural sanitation, particularly through improved waste management, better service delivery and long-term maintenance of sanitation assets.
She further stressed the importance of translating sanitation interventions into sustained grassroots-level improvements through effective monitoring, community ownership and coordinated field action.
