Hajin, July 3: Former Cabinet Minister Usman Majid on Friday expressed concern over the plight of the residents of Kanyari, saying that depriving them of basic civic amenities while the rehabilitation process remains pending is unacceptable.

Addressing locals during his visit to the area, Majid said that until the rehabilitation of the affected families is completed, the administration must ensure that they have access to essential services, including motorable roads, safe drinking water and uninterrupted electricity.

He stressed the need for the immediate repair of the bund road, stating that its poor condition has been causing immense inconvenience to residents, patients particularly school-going children, who face difficulties in commuting every day.

Majid also cautioned the administration against creating fear among residents by threatening demolition of their huts or houses. “No one should harass these families in the name of demolition. The administration must deal with the issue in a humane and compassionate manner until a proper rehabilitation plan is implemented,” he said.

Seeking the immediate intervention of the district administration, Majid urged the authorities to address the long-pending grievances of the Kanyari residents and ensure that they are not deprived of their basic rights and dignity.
