DDC reviews SBM-G, NMBA in Bandipora; Warns of Action over Random Waste Dumping

Bandipora, May 04: The District Development Commissioner (DDC) Bandipora, Indu Kanwal Chib, today chaired a review meeting at the VC Room of Mini Secretariat Bandipora to discuss implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin (SBM-G), Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (NMBA), functioning of youth clubs and District Plan status.

         According to an official spokesperson, during the meeting, the DDC stressed proper waste management practices including source segregation, waste collection and efficient utilisation of SBM-G funds. The meeting was informed that segregation sheds and vermicompost pits have been established across blocks.

         The DDC directed that SBM activities should be planned and implemented effectively at Panchayat level with active involvement of field functionaries and local stakeholders. She also stressed better utilisation of segregation sheds and directed officers to ensure proper waste segregation mechanisms on ground.

         Expressing concern over waste being dumped into water bodies in Gurez, Athwatoo and other areas, the DDC directed officers to take strict action against violators and intensify awareness drives. She further directed that people found throwing garbage in open spaces will be penalised as per norms. BDO Gurez informed that sensitisation campaigns are being conducted among people residing near the Kishanganga river.

         The DDC also directed that user fees under SBM-G will be made mandatory to ensure sustainability of waste management systems and directed BDOs to hold regular meetings with field functionaries while strengthening sanitation infrastructure.

         Reviewing youth club activities, the DDC urged members to play a proactive role in awareness generation and community development. The meeting also reviewed implementation of NMBA at Panchayat level. The DDC said religious leaders are also extending support to social awareness initiatives.

         Regarding District Plan formulation, the meeting was informed that Gram Sabhas have been conducted. The DDC directed officers to ensure efficient, inclusive and need-based development planning.

         The meeting was attended by Assistant Commissioner Development, Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Block Development Officers, District Programme Manager (NRLM) and other concerned officers, while officers from Gurez joined virtually.
