Srinagar, Oct 31: Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir, Sujit Kumar, said on Saturday said cybercrime has emerged as one of the biggest challenges facing law enforcement agencies, adding that the police were prepared to deal with emerging security threats.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the National Unity Day celebrations at Lal Chowk, IGP Kumar as per Kashmir Convener said cybercrime, the drug menace and activities directed against the country were among the major challenges that security agencies would have to address in the coming years.

“Cybercrime is the biggest challenge today and in the coming days. Along with it, there is the drug menace and other activities being carried out against the country,” he said.

The IGP said the police force was prepared to meet the challenges highlighted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his National Unity Day address.

“Whatever challenges the Prime Minister has given us today to safeguard the unity and integrity of the country, and whatever challenges he has highlighted for the coming days, we are ready to face them,” Kumar said.

The celebrations were held at Lal Chowk, where Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha joined personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), youth and schoolchildren to listen to the Prime Minister’s address, which was broadcast live from Kevadia in Gujarat.

IGP Kumar said Jammu and Kashmir was approaching the emerging challenges from a new perspective and indicated that the police would speak about these issues in greater detail separately.
