Congress Seeks Immediate Survey, Compensation for Hailstorm-Hit Farmers in Bandipora

Bandipora, May 12: Advocate Sheikh Farooq Habeeb, District President of Indian National Congress Bandipora, has urged the district administration to immediately conduct a comprehensive survey of the damage caused to orchards and agricultural crops following recent heavy rains and hailstorms in the district.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, Farooq Habeeb said Bandipora witnessed unprecedented rainfall and destructive hailstorms over the past several days, causing extensive damage to standing crops, fruit orchards, and agricultural infrastructure.

He said the losses have severely affected the livelihoods of hundreds of farming and orchard-owning families, pushing many into financial distress.

“The farmers and orchard owners of Bandipora have suffered immense losses due to the fury of this hailstorm and heavy rains. Their orchards, which represent years of hard work and their primary source of income, have been devastated,” he said.

Farooq Habeeb appealed to the administration to deploy officials from the Revenue and Horticulture departments to carry out an on-ground assessment on a war footing and ensure that affected farmers receive fair and timely compensation.

He also called for special relief measures for small and marginal farmers who depend entirely on agriculture and horticulture for their livelihood.

The Congress leader stressed that compensation should be disbursed without bureaucratic delays under the applicable disaster relief norms so that affected families can recover from the losses at the earliest.
