New Delhi, July 21: The Central Government on Tuesday announced a 50 per cent reservation for Ex-Agniveers in the recruitment of Constable (General Duty) posts in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Rifleman posts in the Assam Rifles, introducing a range of relaxations to facilitate their induction into the country’s security forces.
The announcement was made in the Lok Sabha by Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai while replying to an unstarred question. He informed the House that the Ministry of Home Affairs has created a separate recruitment category for Ex-Agniveers to ensure their smooth transition into CAPFs and the Assam Rifles after completing their tenure under the Agnipath scheme.
According to the Government, Ex-Agniveers will be eligible for reservation against 50 per cent of the vacancies in the notified posts. They will also receive three years’ relaxation in the upper age limit, while candidates from the first batch of Ex-Agniveers will be entitled to a five-year age relaxation.
The Minister further said that eligible Ex-Agniveers will be exempted from the Physical Standards Test (PST), Physical Efficiency Test (PET), and the written examination, providing them with a simplified recruitment process in recognition of their military training and service.
To strengthen their rehabilitation and career opportunities after military service, the Ministry of Home Affairs has also established a dedicated Ex-Agniveer Wing, which will coordinate matters relating to recruitment, placement and career progression in CAPFs and the Assam Rifles.
The Government also informed Parliament that no appointments have been made under the new policy so far, as the first batch of Agniveers is yet to complete its prescribed tenure of service under the Agnipath scheme. (KNC)
