Srinagar, Oct 12: Leader of Opposition and senior BJP leader Sunil Sharma on Monday accused the INDIA bloc of trying to create democracy on the streets instead of going to the people, and said the biggest rigging allegation in the country’s electoral history rests with the Abdullah family.
Speaking to reporters in Srinagar, BJP senior leader said the opposition alliance’s proposed campaign amounted to wanting to protest on the streets without going to the people, without doing the work of the people and come to the government. This is their misunderstanding, he said.
I believe that if there is a decent government in politics, then there is also a way to serve decently. You cannot create hostility, he added.
Questioning the feasibility of large-scale protests, Sharma said, You cannot host 2-3 crore people. People have to go to school, people have to go to the hospital, people have to open businesses. For that, you will close all the roads.
No one will allow you anywhere. If you want to show your decency, you can gather 2-5 lakh people. You can gather in the stadium if you don’t have a place on Jantar Mantar. You can gather in Ramlila Maidan. You can gather as many people as you want. And when people accept you, they will bring you to power, he said.
But this is not the way. You will create hostility. You will throw stones. You will do indecent things, Sharma alleged.
Targeting Congress leader Rahul Gandhi over his alleged conduct with a woman police officer, Sharma said, “Even Rahul Gandhi, the way he was misbehaving with a female police officer, that too is not acceptable here.” He also objected to the involvement of regional parties, naming National Conference leader Omar Abdullah, saying their conduct was “not acceptable here”.
Referring to Omar Abdullah’s past remarks on the conduct of elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Sharma said, “Two years ago, he said that such a beautiful election was held for the first time in history. Take out the video, I will tell you. He said that there was not a single protest in Jammu and Kashmir.” He added that the NC leader later “gave instructions to Congress” that the party was “lying” and that “the region is good”.
“How did it go bad today? If it went bad, then your election was also bad. You resign. Then resign on moral grounds. This is incomprehensible,” he said.
Turning the rigging charge back at the Abdullah family, Sharma said, “If this allegation applies to anyone, then it applies to the 1987 rigging, when his father was made the chief minister here by stealing. There used to be a Khalaq MLA DC here. The name of the MLA here is MLA Khalaq. He did not come by choice. Khalaq used to give him a certificate to make Omar Abdullah win.”
“The biggest allegation in the country is the 87 rigging. 87 is the theft. What does the Abdullah family say about the theft in Jammu and Kashmir? When there was a fair election in Jammu and Kashmir, Atal Bihari Vajpayee did it. When there was a fair election, Narendra Modi did it. Congress has stolen votes here. 1987 is an example in the whole world, when Farooq Abdullah was made the chief minister by stealing votes here. He was at home. He does not know. He goes out to speak like this. He forgets. The allegation of theft is on his family. First answer that,” he said.
On Omar Abdullah’s statement that the Uniform Civil Code would never be implemented in Kashmir, Sharma said, “UCC will be implemented in India. And Kashmir is also a part of India.”
