Srinagar, Nov 30: The Border Security Force (BSF) Kashmir Frontier on Sunday celebrated its 61st Raising Day in Srinagar, marking the occasion with pride, emotion and deep gratitude for the force’s decades-long service and sacrifice.

Raised on December 1, 1965, the BSF began its journey with the mandate of guarding India’s international borders.

Over the past six decades, the force has played a crucial role in defending the nation through wars, tackling cross-border threats, supporting internal security, and conducting counter-insurgency operations in Punjab and Jammu & Kashmir, spokesperson told Kashmir Convener

Officers said each chapter of this 60-year journey stands as a testimony to courage, discipline and selfless national service.

“Today, the BSF is the world’s largest border-guarding force, responsible for securing India’s borders with Pakistan and Bangladesh. Its Air Wing, Water Wing and Artillery Regiment reflect the operational versatility that has come to define the organisation,’ spokesperson added.

As part of the celebrations, a cultural programme and Barakhana were organised to honour BSF veterans, many of whom spent their youth guarding the nation in some of the toughest conditions. Their presence, officials said, “added emotional depth and a sense of legacy to the day’s events.”

Inspector General BSF Kashmir Frontier,  Ashok Yadav, IPS, presided over the function as the chief guest. Senior officers joined him in extending Raising Day greetings to BSF personnel and interacting with jawans and their families.

Speaking on the occasion, IG Yadav paid rich tributes to BSF martyrs, calling their sacrifices “the foundation of the Force’s honour and strength.”

“The supreme sacrifices of our martyrs inspire every BSF soldier to stand steadfast, whether on the borders or in internal security duties. Our jawans serve in harsh climates and difficult terrains so that the nation can sleep in peace,” he said, lauding the dedication and professionalism of the troops.

The Diamond Jubilee celebration at the BSF Frontier Headquarters concluded with renewed resolve to uphold the force’s values of courage, commitment and unwavering dedication to national security. Officials reaffirmed that the BSF will continue to strengthen India’s borders and internal security with the same spirit that has guided it for more than six decades.
