PAMPORE, July 29: BJP leader Mohammad Asif Ganie, along with residents of Meebagh Gousia Colony in Pampore, has urged the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama and the Rural Development Department to immediately undertake the repair and maintenance of the colony’s dilapidated road, saying years of official neglect have left the area grappling with severe civic problems.
Residents said the damaged road, coupled with poor drainage and inadequate street lighting, has made everyday life increasingly difficult for commuters, schoolchildren, elderly people and local traders. They alleged that even a brief spell of rain inundates the road, forcing people to wade through muddy water and posing a serious risk to pedestrians and motorists alike.
Speaking to Kashmir Convener, Asif Ganie said the plight of the residents was deeply concerning, especially considering that the locality falls within Ward No. 1 of Pampore town.
“A short spell of rain is enough to turn this road into a pool of muddy water, making movement extremely difficult for residents. The situation becomes even worse after sunset, as inadequate street lighting puts elderly people, women and children at risk. If this is the condition of Ward No. 1 in the heart of Pampore, one can only imagine the state of basic infrastructure in the more remote areas. I urge the district administration and all concerned departments to personally visit the locality and ensure that these long-pending issues are addressed without any further delay,” Ganie said.
Local resident Mehraj-ud-Din said the colony has remained neglected despite repeated representations to the authorities over the past several years.
“For the last 10 to 12 years, we have been living with the same unresolved problems, but our repeated appeals have gone unheard. We are struggling with a damaged road, poor drainage and electricity-related issues, while local businesses have also suffered because of the lack of basic infrastructure. We are not asking for luxuries—we are only seeking the basic civic facilities that every citizen deserves. We sincerely appeal to the administration to visit our locality, witness our hardships firsthand and provide us with lasting relief,” he said.
The residents appealed to the district administration and the concerned line departments to take immediate corrective measures and ensure the early restoration of the road and other essential civic amenities in the locality.
