Bandipora, September 14: Bandipora Police have arrested a man and seized 1.15 kg of suspected charas during a naka checking operation at Shok Baba Sumlar near Hatchery in Bandipora.
Police said a scooty bearing registration number JK15C-5452 was intercepted during the checking conducted by a police party from Police Post Sumlar.
During a search of the vehicle, police recovered a polythene bag containing a contraband-like substance, suspected to be charas, weighing approximately 1.150 kg (1,150 grams).
The person in possession of the vehicle was identified as Haris Fayaz, son of Fayaz Ahmad Wani, resident of T.A. Shah. He was subsequently arrested, while the scooty was also seized.
A case under FIR No. 148/2026 under Sections 8/20 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Post Sumlar, Police Station Bandipora, and further investigation has been initiated.
Bandipora Police reiterated its commitment to curbing drug abuse and taking strict legal action against the illegal possession and trafficking of narcotic substances.
