Bandipora Police arrests Two Drug Peddlers; attaches Properties Worth ₹90 Lakh

BANDIPORA, APRIL 24: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday arrested two alleged drug peddlers in separate operations in Sumbal and Aragam areas of Bandipora, recovered contraband substances, attached properties worth approximately ₹90 lakh linked to narcotics cases, and conducted awareness programmes under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir campaign.

According to police, a naka checking team from Police Station Sumbal intercepted a pedestrian at Tengpora Nesbal crossing and identified him as Ishfaq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Safapora. During the search, around 570 grams of charas was recovered from his possession. A case under FIR No. 80/2026 has been registered at Police Station Sumbal and further investigation has been initiated.

In a separate operation, a police team from Police Station Aragam intercepted another individual near Gundi Dachina crossing. The accused, identified as Manzoor Ahmad Khan of Chattibandy, was found carrying approximately 110 grams of charas. An FIR No. 24/2026 under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been registered at Police Station Aragam, and the accused has been taken into custody.

Police also reported the attachment of immovable properties worth about ₹90 lakh belonging to two alleged repeat offenders under provisions of the NDPS Act. A single-storey residential house valued at ₹35 lakh in Vijpara, linked to Mehraj Din Bhat, and a double-storey residential house valued at ₹55 lakh in Phelipora Hakbara, linked to Lal Mohammad Sheikh, were attached under Section 68 of the Act. Officials said both individuals were involved in multiple narcotics-related cases registered over the years.

The action, police said, is part of efforts to disrupt financial networks associated with drug trafficking and to deter repeat offences.

Meanwhile, awareness programmes were conducted in educational institutions including Government Degree College Gurez, Government Middle School Ajas and a private school in Ajas under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir campaign. Students and staff participated in sessions focusing on the health and social impacts of substance abuse and legal consequences under the NDPS Act.

Police said the campaign aims to promote awareness among youth and encourage community participation in efforts to address drug abuse in the district.
