Bandipora, April 18: The District Administration Bandipora on Saturday organised a series of awareness programmes across educational institutions under the Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, aimed at sensitising students about the risks and consequences of substance abuse.

The programmes were held in multiple schools and higher secondary institutions, including PM SHRI HSS Shadipora, GHS Hajin, HSS PTL Gurez, HSS Nowgam, HS Jurniyal, HS Ketson, HS Odina, HSS Chuntimulla, HSS Hajin, HS Achoora, GHS Nadihal, HSS Mantrigam, GHSS Gadakhud Sonawari, HS Panar, Government High School Ahamisharief, HS Kanzalwan, PM SHRI GHS Sumbal, HS Kehnusa, HS Tarabal, and HS Malangam.

As part of the initiative, awareness films, short videos, and documentaries were screened to educate students about the physical, psychological, and social impacts of drug abuse. The sessions highlighted how substance abuse affects individual health, family structures, and the wider community.

Students participated in discussions and awareness talks conducted by teachers and resource persons. Many also took pledges to remain drug-free and promote awareness among their peers.

In a parallel programme, Government Degree College Sumbal hosted an awareness talk and interactive session under the campaign’s “Dosti Initiative.” The session focused on the role of peer influence in shaping behaviour and encouraged students to make informed and responsible choices.

Participants engaged in discussions on drug-related concerns and their societal implications, while officials emphasised the importance of early awareness and community participation in addressing the issue.

The programmes were conducted as part of the district’s ongoing 100-day Information, Education and Communication (IEC) campaign, which aims to expand outreach through schools, colleges, and community platforms.

Officials said the initiative seeks to encourage students to adopt healthy lifestyles, report suspicious activities, and act as advocates for a drug-free society. The campaign reflects the administration’s continued efforts to address substance abuse through awareness, engagement, and preventive measures.
