Bandipora, Feb 23: Authorities in District hospital Bandipora on Friday attached a nurse and deducted the salaries of three other staff nurses for two and a half days after they were found allegedly involved in extorting money from patients under the pretext of providing 'Tea'.

An official said that the hospital administration, led by the Medical Superintendent, responded promptly to a complaint lodged by the husband of a patient who recently delivered a baby at the Hospital.

According to the complaint, the husband was coerced by hospital officials to provide money under the guise of providing “Tea” to celebrate the birth of the child.

Taking a stern stance against such malpractices, the Medical Superintendent swiftly attached a nurse to the Deputy CMO office and withheld the salaries of three staff nurses for two and a half days.

Furthermore, the extorted money was promptly recovered and returned to the complainant, ensuring justice and restitution for the affected party while the thorough investigation is already underway into the matter.

“This action sends a clear message that unethical behaviour will not be tolerated within the hospital premises,” the official said. The initiative by District Hospital Bandipora has garnered widespread praise from the local people.
