Srinagar,20 Feb: Adbi Markaz Kamraz J&K on Tuesday held an online seminar to celebrate the International Mother Language Day 2024.
The seminar focused on preservation of Kashmiri language in the growing multilingual social system.
Speakers during the seminar stress on developing the language consciousness among the youngsters. The seminar was chaired by prominent writer, poet and convenor, Kashmiri Sahitiya Akademi Professor Shad Ramzan.
President AMK JK presented the keynote address, Shakir Shafi and Sohan Lal Koul spoke during the seminar and stressed on the evolution of Kashmiri Language in accordance with the modern technological and global demands.
"The purpose of the seminar is to explore and share the importance of and how youth can preserve their mother language in a diverse and multicultural society "Said Amin Bhat President AMK JK.
Bhat discussed the technological, social and cultural aspects of language development in the contemporary scenario.
"We are focusing on every aspect of language development in the society and exploring every option to include the young generation into the aspects of language consciousness and evolution of mother tongue," Bhat said.
Shakir Shafi President Halqi Adab Sonawari while referring to NEP 2020 stressed on the need of in depth awareness among the youngsters about the mother tongue.
"It is time to aware youngsters especially scholars and students about the essence of mother tongue in learning process"
Noted dramatist and novelist Sohan Lal Koul while Shakir Shafi S opinion added that the content created by the poets and writers should reach the global audience so that mother tongue can be preserved at large.
Koul stressed the involvement of all stakeholders in spreading the essence and importance of the mother tongue.
Vice President Literary Forum Bandipora Mir Tariq during the session stressed on exploring the possibility of developing language consciousness among the speakers and urge for the development of language and cultural consciousness among the native speakers so that the Kashmiri language can be evolved in accordance with modern needs.
Junaid Mujtaba, an IT expert speaking on the occasion, urged writers and poets to digitalise their writings for the purpose of global outreach.
"Kashmiri language can only reach the global audience in puritanical form if their writings are digitalised in its originality"Said Mujtaba
He further stressed on the massive online content production to make the Kashmiri language and literature available for global audiences.
Speakers shared the challenges faced by young and elderly people now in preserving their own language, mother tongue.
Prof Shad Ramzan while presenting the presidential address said that the technology is one of the challenges and also becomes the opportunities for this generation to preserve and promote their mother language.
"They need to start by themselves, family, community, national, regional, and globally" Shad said.
"It is the time to capitalise the mother tongue Kashmiri at par with dominating languages besides the content created by native writers should be digitalised globally" Shad said
