Srinagar, June 22: The Shopian conspiracy, which unfolded after the tragic incident on May 29, 2009 left a lasting impact on the Kashmir economy with an estimated loss of Rs 6000 crores in business during seven months of unrest.
Official data reveal that the turmoil left a lasting impact on the economy of Kashmir valley due to prolonged unrest fuelled by a fake narrative. “The economic repercussions were severe, with an estimated loss of around Rs 6000 crores in business during those seven months”.
Official sources further revealed that as the investigation into the Shopian case progressed, a shocking revelation emerged. He said it was discovered that the entire incident was part of a larger conspiracy orchestrated by deep assets within various societal and governmental institutions, acting in collusion with Pakistan and its proxies in Jammu and Kashmir. “The aim was to fabricate a completely false story, tarnish the image of Indian security forces, and create disaffection against the Indian state”.
Data revealed that over a span of seven months, from June to December 2009, the region was engulfed in flames. The conspiracy led to 42 strike calls by Hurriyat Conference, resulting in widespread rioting throughout the valley.
Government Data indicate that approximately 600 minor and major law and order incidents occurred in all districts, leading to seven civilian killings and 103 injuries.
Moreover, 29 police personnel and six paramilitary personnel were also injured during the protests. “The economic repercussions were severe, with an estimated loss of around Rs 6000 crores in business during those seven months,” data revealed.
Government sources said the Shopian episode emerged to be a classic textbook case study of how Pakistan and its proxies in J&K mobilized their deep assets within several societal and governmental institutions to fabricate a completely false story, give credence to the falsehood by creating false evidence including a totally bogus post-mortem, going to the extent of replacing biological samples to falsely implicate completely innocent police officers and thereby subvert and obstruct the justice system of a proportion that is unprecedented in the annals of criminal justice system.
Sources said tens of hundreds of news and op-ed stories came to be published in local, national and international media vilifying the Indian State for encouraging rape murder and mayhem in Kashmir using its security forces and later hushing it up.
“The effects of these write-ups have been devastating. Hundreds of youngsters expressed their desire to join terrorism to avenge the dishonour of the women,” they said.
“Immediately after the local setup of terror network in Shopian twisted the drowning incident as rape and murder, the next layer of terror entities based in Srinagar took over the reins of campaign”.
