NIA summons Moulana Rehmatullah Qasmi in JI Funding Case

Srinagar, June 07: National Investigation Agency (NIA) has summoned renowned Islamic Scholar, rector Dar ul Uloom Rahimya Bandipora and senior member of Muttahida Majlis Ulema Moualana Rehmatullah Mir Qasmi in an alleged terror funding case.

According to the summon, NIA  said they are investigating the case  RC-07 /2022/NIA/JMU dated 03.09.2022 under section 120B & 153A of IPC sections 10, 13 & 22C of UA (P) Act 1967  pertaining to  raising of funds by Jamat e Islami in Jammu and Kashmir and further utilizing these funds for committing unlawful acts to radicalise the youth of Jammu and Kashmir. "It appears that you are acquainted with the facts of this case. You are hereby directed to report at NIA camp office Church Lane Sonwar Srinagar for the purpose of answering certain questions related to the case," reads the summon served to Moulana Qasmi.

Sources said that Qasmi presented himself before the probe agency at 11 am and was questioned for about four hours.

 “The investigating officers presented a set of questions that were answered satisfactorily by Moulana. He fully cooperated with them as there was nothing to hide,” a close aide of the  Moualana Qasmi said.

Sources said Qasmi was allowed to leave at about 4:20 PM. In between he also went for lunch break and offered Nimaz-e-Zuhur at a local Masjid in Sonawar.

In October last year NIA had raided the house of Qasmi and conducted search of the house besides seizing his mobile phones. The raids were conducted in connection with a seperate terror funding case.

            The 66-year old Islamic scholar is also a sufi spiritual guide of a lot of followers from across the country being  an authorized disciple of Mahmood Hasan Gangohi (RA) in Tasawwuf (Sufism). He established Darul Uloom Raheemiyyah, one of the largest Islamic madrasa in Bandipore, Kashmir in 1979.

The seminary follows the methodology of Darul Uloom Deoband. He is a founding member of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and a senior member of the managing committee of Darul Uloom Deoband. He is also a member of the working committee of Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind.
