Anantnag, Nov 2 (KNO): South Kashmir Contractors Association on Monday staged a protest in Bijbehara area of Anantnag district on Monday and demanded immediate release of their pending payments.
Contractors from every corner of South Kashmir assembled in the premises of PHE division Bijbehara and raised slogans in favour of their demands.
They said: “We have completed works before many years and are still waiting for payments of the same.”
Altaf Ahmed, a protesting contractor said that when authorities failed to solve their issues despite repeated promises, they were forced to take streets and the protests will continue till their genuine demands aren’t fulfilled.
“It is very difficult for us to meet both ends as we have been suffering from many years. If authorities won’t release payments now, our dependents will die of starvation,” he added.
The protesting contractors said that they won't take part now in any tendering process till pending payments are released. Protesting contractors requested J&K LG Manoj Sinha to look into the matter and issue an order in this regard so that their pending payments are released forthwith. “LG sir must intervene so that we can heave a sigh of relief,” he said
