Srinagar, March 19: Joint Committee of Private Schools (JCPS) has strongly condemned the killing of young school teacher in police custody and termed it as extremely worrisome situation.

The Committee in an emergency meeting expressed its anger at the open flouting of rules and targeting of people from every profession including the education sector. “Rizwan Asad was a brilliant school teacher loved by students and colleagues alike. We fail to imagine how anybody can kill a person like him, whose most of the time is spent among children,” said Mushtaq Canny, chairman JCPS. “We demand an impartial inquiry and time-bound result that includes strict punishment to the culprits.”

JCPS expressed its condolences with the bereaved family and hundreds of affected students. The Committee said that entire school fraternity is with them at this hour of tragedy.

The Committee said that the killing hints at the dangerous situation we have been subjected to. “Over the last few weeks, we have seen systematic targeting of the education sector. First Fallah-e-Aam schools were closed and after the hue and cry they were allowed to resume. Secondly, the schools and colleges were continuously subjected to extended winter holidays affecting their time table. Thirdly the restrictions during convoys are hitting schools the hardest. By adding this killing, one can imagine how systematically education sector is being targeted,” said Mushtaq.

The Committee said that these situations always happen at the start of the academic session as was seen in previous years. “If these things keep on happening, one can imagine how bad the year is going to be for schools,” said Mushtaq.
